A 34-year-old South Boston man was charged with driving under the influence following a single-vehicle wreck that occurred Saturday night on Highway 501, one-tenth of a mile north of State Route 638.
According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper J. R. Abbott, Danny L. Perkins was driving a 1988 Ford Ranger when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail. The car then rolled up on the passenger’s side.
Perkins was not injured, but his passenger, 51-year-old Larry W. Beadles, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Abbott estimated damage to the Ford at $1,500.
A 20-year-old Nathalie woman was charged with following too close after a wreck that occurred Sunday night on State Route 654, 100 feet north of State Route 1336.
According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper J. A. Williamson, 20-year-old Destiny L. Betts of Halifax was driving a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo when she attempted to make a left turn, and Shaquail M. Johnson, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi, struck her in the rear.
Both Johnson and Betts sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital, while Betts’ 17-year-old female juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Williamson estimated damage to the Mitsubishi at $3,000 and damage to the Isuzu at $1,000.
