Arrest made in June pool building fire

A 21-year-old South Boston man has been charged with one count of arson to an unoccupied building and one count of destruction of property in connection with the June 27 fire at the American Legion Post 8 pool building.

Javante Devon Jordan of Shepherd Street was arrested Friday and charged with setting the fire that destroyed the pool building located at the American Legion Post 8 on Jeffress Boulevard, according to South Boston Police Detective Randy E. Redd.

Jordan was indicted Thursday for one count of arson to an unoccupied building and one count of destruction of property with the value of that property being greater than $1,000.

According to Redd, the South Boston Fire Department responded to the American Legion Post 8 pool building June 27 and found the pool building on fire.

Special Agents with the Virginia State Police Arson and Bomb Unit were called in to assist in the investigation.  Evidence recovered at the fire scene and at other locations during the course of the investigation led to the arrest of Jordan, Redd said.

Jordan is currently being held in the Halifax Adult Detention Center under a $7,500 bond.
