Police pursuit ends with arrest

A 34-year-old Greensboro, N.C., man is being held in Blue Ridge Regional Jail with no bond on charges of grand larceny and eluding authorities following a police pursuit that began in Scottsburg and ended in the Town of South Boston Wednesday afternoon.

Ronnie David Blanks was arrested Wednesday afternoon after the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that an individual possibly was driving a stolen motorcycle in the Scottsburg area, Sheriff Fred S. Clark said.

Investigator M. A. Womack spotted the motorcycle on U. S. 360 and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the operator of the motorcycle refused to pull over and continued into the Town of South Boston.

After a short pursuit, the operator lost control of the motorcycle and fled on foot, Clark said. Minutes later, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies and South Boston Town Police officers apprehended Blanks without incident.

The sheriff expressed appreciation to the South Boston Police Department for its assistance in arresting Blanks and to the citizens who provided the tip, E911 dispatchers and investigators and deputies for the effort involved in apprehending Blanks.
