South Boston man indicted in abduction, rape

A Halifax County Circuit Court grand jury meeting earlier this month indicted a 29-year-old South Boston man for three related felonies.

The grand jury indicted Joshua Kyle Webster for abduction, forcible rape and forcible sodomy, with the alleged offenses occurring Jan. 6.

An indictment is issued by a grand jury against an individual who is charged with a crime.  Before the individual may be convicted, the charge must be proved at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.

The purpose of an indictment is to inform an accused individual of the charge against him or her so that the person will be able to prepare a defense.
