A 2-year-old toddler is a patient at Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond after being shot in the head Friday by a BB gun, and 21-year-old Nathan V. Allen of Halifax faces charges of child abuse/neglect and causing serious injury to a child.
According to South Boston authorities, officers received a 911 call at 12:16 p.m. to a report of a child being shot in the head in the area of Spring Avenue.
The caller told authorities the child was bleeding from the head after being struck by a BB fired from a BB gun.
Senior Patrol Officer T. W. Bush responded with other officers who within minutes located the suspect near Grove Park, according to authorities.
Halifax County Rescue Squad transported the toddler and his mother to Halifax Regional Hospital where the child was treated for an injury to his head.
The child was later transferred by Patient Transport to MCV in Richmond for further treatment, authorities said.
During this incident, police reported a nearby neighbor’s property was vandalized, and a rear window was broken out of a vehicle.
Officer F. A. Powell is conducting an investigation into this incident.
Following Allen’s arrest, he was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he was held on a $2,500 secured bond.
