Halifax County authorities seized 21 marijuana plants and charged a South Boston man with manufacturing marijuana after receiving a tip over the July 4 holiday that led them to a Newton Farm Road residence where they found the marijuana plants growing.
According to Sheriff Fred S. Clark, Cpl. S. M. Bowen and Deputy W. G. Yancey acted on a tip and found the marijuana already had been cut down and removed.
The tip also led to 35-year-old Chris Daniel Anderson who “took off running” when he saw authorities, Clark said.
Bowen and Yancey called Deputy C. A. Bates V and his K9 to assist in tracking Anderson.
According to Clark, Bates and his K9 tracked Anderson for a couple miles and found him lying in a creek area near Cluster Springs.
Anderson was charged with manufacturing marijuana and currently is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail on a $25,000 secured bond.
A total of 21 marijuana plants were confiscated from the Newton Farm Road residence, Clark said.
“More charges are pending,” the sheriff added.
