A Richmond man faces charges of obtaining money under false pretense and carrying a concealed weapon, according to Halifax Police Chief Kevin Lands.
Authorities apprehended 23-year-old Javon Nelson Richardson of Heath Avenue on the charges after he earlier had attempted to purchase a gun from Riverside Pawn Shop, Lands said.
When a background check was conducted on Richardson, Lands said it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant for obtaining money under false pretense.
Later Officer W. R. Wilmoth Jr. arrested Richardson at Wilco’s Convenience Store on the outstanding warrant and found a concealed weapon on his person.
Dep. T. H. Clarke served the warrant Wednesday for the concealed weapon charge.
Richardson was taken to Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he was held on a $7,500 secured bond.
