Grand jury indicts South Boston man on firearm, larceny charges

A 23-year-old South Boston man, Timothy Thor Austin Jr., was indicted March 11 by a Halifax County Circuit Court Grand Jury for larceny and firearm related charges.

An indictment is issued by a grand jury against an individual who is charged with a crime.  Before the individual may be convicted, the charge must be proved at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.

The purpose of an indictment is to inform an accused individual of the charge against him or her so that the person will be able to prepare a defense.

Austin was indicted for four offenses, including possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, grand larceny and destruction of personal property, in addition to petty larceny.

The first three offenses allegedly occurred June 27, and the last offense allegedly occurred June 25.

 

Other indictments

Joseph Matthew Arnold, 25, of Halifax, was indicted March 11 for five offenses, including conspiracy to commit grand larceny, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, grand larceny, breaking and entering and obtaining money under false pretenses.

The offenses allegedly occurred Oct. 24.

 Brian Coleman Adkins, 46, of Chatham was indicted March 11 for three charges, including a fourth offense of DWI within 10 years, carrying a concealed weapon and refusing a blood/breath test.

The offenses allegedly occurred May 12.

 Justin Allen Adkins, 20, of Nathalie was indicted March 11 for two offenses, including disregarding a signal to stop from law enforcement, and a third or subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle after his operator’s license was revoked.

The alleged offenses occurred Nov. 2.

Adkins also was indicted for possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance, with that offense allegedly occurring Sept. 20.

 Michael Tyler Duffie, 30, of Scottsburg was indicted March 11 for five offenses, including abduction, breaking and entering, destruction of personal property, assault and battery and a violation of a protective order.

The alleged offenses occurred Jan. 27.

 Timothy Shane Davis, 35, of Nathalie was indicted March 11 for two charges, including possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance and public intoxication/swearing.

The offenses allegedly occurred Dec. 9.

 Richard Dale Culley, 24, of Nathalie, was indicted March 11 for two charges of child neglect.

The alleged offenses occurred July 11.

 Rickie Lewis Compton, 44, of South Boston was indicted March 11 for a subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle after having been declared a habitual offender.

The alleged offense occurred Feb. 22.

Compton also was indicted for an additional charge of a subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle after having been declared a habitual offender.

That alleged offense occurred Nov. 6.

 Natausha Clark, 22, of Clover was indicted March 11 for two offenses, both for forgery of a public record.

The alleged offenses occurred Oct. 21, 2010 and July 9, 2011, respectively.

 Selina Muth Chuquirima, 35, of Vernon Hill, was indicted March 11 for three charges, including child abuse, unauthorized distribution of controlled drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance.

The alleged offenses occurred Oct. 22.

 Shaquanta Lanice Caddle, 32, of Danville was indicted March 11 for enhanced petty larceny.

The alleged offense occurred Nov. 23.

 John David Buckner, 30, of South Boston was indicted March 11 for three charges, including aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13-years-old, taking indecent liberties with a minor less than 15-years-old and child abuse.

The alleged offenses occurred May 4.

 Bernard Otis Bradsher, 20, of Alton was indicted March 11 for a charge of receiving stolen goods.

The alleged offense occurred Aug. 22.

 Lacorey Beard, 30, of South Boston was indicted March 11 for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

The alleged offense occurred Dec. 8.

 Lorenza Wilbur Bailey, 51, of South Boston was indicted March 11 for two offenses, including driving on a forfeited operator’s license and a fourth offense of DWI within 10 years.

The alleged offenses occurred Jan. 4.
