Counterfeit $20 bills make way to county

Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark warns residents watch for counterfeit bills that have been in circulation around the Halifax County and Danville area.


The Danville Police Department is investigating numerous reports of counterfeit money being passed within the city. Unknown persons are passing the bills at numerous stores, according to Lt. Scott A. Eanes of the Danville Police.

At this time, all collected are $20 bills.

And some of these $20s have made their way into Halifax County, according to Clark.

After having lunch at Chick- Fil-A in Piedmont Mall in Danville, a Halifax County woman discovered she received two of the counterfeit $20 bills from her meal purchase.

 Clark said the woman had heard about some 39 counterfeit bills reported last week in Danville, so she checked the serial numbers on her cash with those released by the Danville Police Department and discovered she had two of the fake bills.

 The woman then turned the fake bills over to Capt. David Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office who is sending the counterfeit money to federal authorities.

The fake $20s have five different serial numbers:
