Scottsburg man faces drug charges

A 47-year-old Scottsburg man faces multiple drug charges after being taken into custody following a traffic stop Thursday, according to Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark.

Joe Belt Allred Jr. was arrested and charged with three counts of distributing drugs, Clark said. Allred was arrested on two counts of distributing a Schedule III substance and one count of distributing a Schedule IV substance.

Deputy T. H. Clarke took Allred into custody on Thursday.

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Halifax Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force, according to the sheriff.

Allred is being held at the Halifax Adult Detention Center under an $8,000 secured bond. Additional charges are pending, Clark said.

“I would like to thank all the law enforcement agencies involved in this arrest as well as the citizens of Halifax County who provided tips and information in the investigation,” Clark said.

To report any criminal or drug activity, call the Halifax County Crime Line at 476-8445 or 476-3334, and persons can remain anonymous, he added.
