South Boston man faces felony charge

A 43-year-old South Boston man faces a felony indictment of abduction and a misdemeanor charge of assault, according to South Police Office records.

Harold D. Hamlett was charged with the alleged offenses that occurred Sept. 5, and Officer R. J. Mead served the warrants Sunday.

Matthew Hubbard, 53, of South Boston faces a charge of being drunk in public.

The alleged offense occurred Christmas Day, and Officer J. J George served the warrant that same day.

 Juan T. Andres, 20, of South Boston faces a charge of being drunk in public.

The alleged offense occurred Wednesday, and   Cpl. M. W. Bowen served the warrant the same day.

 Frank Dunkley, 41, of South Boston faces a charge of being drunk in public.

The alleged offense occurred Christmas Eve, and Officer C. L. Collie served the warrant the same day.

 Glenn H. Spell, 45, of Halifax faces a charge of being drunk in public.

The alleged offense occurred Saturday, and Cpl J. C. Berry served the warrant the same day.

 Steven Richard Bartee, 25, of Mt Camel Road, Alton was issued a felony capias for probation violation, according to Halifax Sheriff’s Office records.

Deputy W. F. Cross served the warrant Sunday.

 Ronnie Dean Newbill Jr., 24, of Hogan Road, Virgilina faces a misdemeanor charge of violating a juvenile protective order.

The alleged offense occurred Dec. 20, and Deputy C. S. Hudson served the warrant Sunday.

 Calvin Rock Johnson, 53, of Burton Road, Scottsburg faces a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a family member.

The alleged offense occurred Christmas Day, and Deputy S. Britton served the warrant the same day.

 Teresa Williams Settlemyer, 45, of Burton Road, Scottsburg faces a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery of a family member.

 The alleged offense occurred Christmas Day, and Deputy S. Britton served the warrants that same day.

 Taneisha Venable, 21, of Ball Park Loop, Halifax faces a misdemeanor charge of kidnapping.

The alleged offense occurred Christmas Day, and Sgt Q. W. Clark served the warrant Wednesday.

 Halifax County authorities are investigating recent thefts, according to Lt. Steve M. Cassada.

Sometime during the past weekend, someone pried open a door to an outbuilding located on the property of Shirley Newcomb on Clays Mill Road in Halifax and stole several Stihl chainsaws and a black rolling Craftsman toolbox. 

Corporal Seth Bowen is the investigating officer.   

Also over the weekend, Deputy Chuck Bates was called to New Zion Baptist Church on Chatham Road in Nathalie where church members reported that sometime recently, someone had cut and stolen approximately 30 feet of copper pipe from a propane tank.

An investigation is continuing.
