Nathalie man pleads guilty to drug distribution charges

A 33-year-old Nathalie man, Brian Edward Chism, pleaded guilty Monday in Halifax County Circuit Court to a pair of drug distribution charges.


Chism pleaded guilty to two charges for distribution of cocaine pursuant to a plea agreement with the commonwealth.

Under terms of the plea agreement, the commonwealth moved to nol pros a charge against Chism for conspiring to distribute cocaine.

The court sentenced the defendant to five years in prison for each of the charges, with all suspended conditioned on Chism’s good behavior for 10 years.

The court ordered Chism placed on probation for one year and ordered him to submit to random drug tests, and it ordered him to pay $150 restitution to Virginia State Police.


Other Court Cases

Gregory Wendell Newman, 25, of South Boston was convicted Monday of two charges for the misdemeanor distribution of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

The court sentenced Newman to 12 months in jail for each of the two convictions, with all time suspended to that already served, conditioned on Newman’s good behavior for 24 months. 

The court additionally ordered Newman to pay restitution to Virginia State Police within 60 days.
