Multiple charges filed in reported robbery, assault

A 20-year-old Roxboro, N.C., man faces 17 charges in connection with an alleged robbery attempt that occurred in the spring, according to Halifax County Sheriff’s Office records.

Darshae Billie Lee of Barnette Avenue was arrested on five felony counts of robbery and attempts, four felony counts of felonious assault with intent to maim, five felony counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and three misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm.

The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred May 28, and Deputy J. P. Adams served the warrants Tuesday.

According to Lt. Steve M. Cassada of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, the charges stem from an alleged assault that occurred on Boodie Trail in the Cluster Springs community when a victim reported being struck in the head by a gun and having his Nike tennis shoes stolen.

Deputy W. G. Yancey responded to Halifax Regional Hospital to investigate the report of the assault that allegedly occurred in the county last spring. 

Capt. A. J. Weaver of Person County Sheriff’s Office along with members of the Halifax County/South Boston Narcotics and Gang Task Force arrested Lee at his Woodsdale Road home at that time.

Adams also issued a misdemeanor surety capias against Lee Wednesday.

Recently a Halifax County Grand Jury returned true bills against Lee who is currently being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax.

A pair of Nathalie men face multiple charges, misdemeanors and felonies, stemming from alleged attempts to steal metal in the county, according to Cassada.

Wayne Edward Hailey, 59, of Clarkton Road faces a felony count of grand larceny, four felony counts of possession with intent to distribute stolen property, one misdemeanor count of vandalism, four misdemeanor counts of trespassing with intent to do damage and four general trespassing misdemeanor charges.

The charges stem from alleged offenses that occurred May 7, 8, 9 and 10, and Deputy J. P. Adams served the warrants.

James Fletcher Jones, 52, of Clarkton Road, Nathalie also faces two felony counts including grand larceny and possession with intent to distribute stolen property stemming from the same alleged incidents in May.

In addition, Jones faces one misdemeanor count of vandalism, four misdemeanor counts of trespassing with intent to do damage and four misdemeanor counts of general trespassing.

Adams also served the warrants on Jones.

In other Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reports:

George Wesley Garrett III, 18, of Ragland Street, South Boston faces 17 felony charges including four counts of forgery, eight counts of fraud, one count of perjury in DMV matters and four counts of embezzlement of over $200.

The alleged forgery and fraud charges occurred Oct. 1, the alleged perjury charge occurred Feb. 25, and the alleged embezzlement charges occurred Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 18 and Feb. 21.

Cpl. P. C. Clayton served the warrants Tuesday.

 Eugene Putnam, 74, of Buffalo Road, Long Island faces a misdemeanor charge of attempt to assault.

The alleged offense occurred Nov. 27, and Deputy J. O. Tanner Jr. served the warrant Tuesday.

 Wayne Edward Cash, 45, of James D. Hagood Highway, Scottsburg faces a misdemeanor count of community diversion violation.

Deputy T. H. Clarke served the warrant Tuesday.
