Nathalie man faces assault charge

A 29-year-old Nathalie man faces a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery following a Sunday night incident that resulted in a South Boston man seeking medical treatment from Halifax County Rescue at Halifax Volunteer Fire Department.

Antwann Derile Miller of Bradley Creek Road, Nathalie was charged with the alleged offense that occurred Sunday, and Deputy W. G. Yancey served the warrant Monday.

According to Lt. Steve Cassada, a call came into the E-911 Center around 8:15 p.m. that a man had been shot in the face and was enroute by personal vehicle to the fire station in Halifax.

However, when Owen T. Layne of South Boston arrived at the fire station, he had not been shot in the face, Cassada said.

Instead, he allegedly had been assaulted during a dispute over money, the lieutenant said.

EMS transported Layne to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries, according to Cassada.
