South Boston man faces rape charge

A 30-year-old South Boston man faces a charge of forcible rape allegedly involving a victim younger than 13, according to South Boston Police lead detective Sgt. R. E. Redd.

South Boston Police Officers arrested John David Buckner of Hamilton Boulevard Tuesday on a warrant alleging that between Jan. 1 and May 6, Buckner committed forcible rape with the victim being younger than 13.

According to Redd, Buckner was taken before a magistrate for his bond hearing and was held without bond.

He currently is being held in the Halifax Adult Detention Center while awaiting trial.

South Boston Police Captain B. K. Lovelace said the investigation into this case is ongoing, and additional charges are expected once the investigation is completed.
