Armed robbery suspect hits Jiffy Store on Sunday

Just three days after the Jiffy Food Store on John Randolph Boulevard in South Boston was burglarized, an armed bandit hit it Sunday night shortly before 9.

According to South Boston Police Captain B. K. Lovelace, the Jiffy Store was robbed at gunpoint Sunday by a 5-foot, 8-inch male with a brown skin complexion.

The man came into the store brandishing a firearm while demanding money from the cashier, Lovelace said.

The male, who was wearing a black hoodie and a mask covering his face, left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

No one was injured in the robbery, Lovelace said.

Sgt. F. M. Edmunds of the South Boston Police Department responded to the robbery call and was assisted by a tracking dog and handler from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, South Boston Police Department is continuing to investigate a burglary that occurred at the same Jiffy Store sometime last Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

In the burglary, a thief gained entry through the roof and opened the ATM machine and broke into the safe.

The burglar fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Anyone with information about this robbery or last week’s burglary is asked to call the South Boston Police Department at (434) 575-4273 or the Halifax County Crime Line at (434) 476-8445.

Calling the Halifax County Crime Line can lead to a reward of up to $1,000 for the arrest and conviction of the offender.
