Halifax County authorities recently seized 129 marijuana plants having a street value of $417,000 in a drug eradication effort that led to two search warrants being executed at residences on Green Level Road in Scottsburg.
According to Halifax County Task Force Special Agent Jay George III, South Boston Police Department, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and task force agents participated in the Aug. 25 eradication effort that involved a helicopter flying over the Scottsburg community.
Agents aboard the helicopter spotted 41 marijuana plants at one location that led to search warrants being executed, and more information gathered in the search led authorities to additional sites where subjects were cultivating an additional 88 marijuana plants, George said.
The plants were located at a plot near the residences on Green Level Road where the search warrants had been executed, he added.
No charges have been filed yet, George said, but authorities are talking with Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Freshour concerning disposition of the case.
The special agent said the marijuana plants, some measuring over nine feet tall, have been secured in the chain of custody and are being stored in an evidence room.
After disposition of the case, George said authorities will destroy the plants.
