Man pleads to driving charges, larceny

A 32-year-old Halifax man pleaded guilty Monday in Halifax County Circuit Court to grand larceny and four misdemeanors after reaching a plea agreement with the commonwealth.

Teddy Ray Cisneros pleaded guilty to grand larceny from William Robert Hammond and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of marijuana.

Pursuant to a plea agreement with the commonwealth, another charge against the defendant for possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance was nol prossed.

The plea agreement calls for the court to sentence Cisneros to a five-year suspended prison term (suspended to time already served) for grand larceny; to a 12-month suspended jail term for leaving the scene of an accident; to six-month suspended terms for driving with a suspended/revoked license and reckless driving; and to a 30-day suspended term for possession of marijuana.

The court ordered Cisneros’ suspended sentence be conditioned on his good behavior for the period of his suspended sentence, and it ordered him be placed on probation for two years.

The court additionally suspended the defendant’s operator’s license for six months on the grand larceny charge, six months for the marijuana charge and for an additional 90 days on the driving while suspended charge.

The court also ordered the defendant to pay $1,700 restitution at a rate of no less than $200 a month beginning two months from his release.
