South Boston shooting suspect arrested

South Boston Police arrested 25-year-old Calvin L. Wells of South Boston on Monday in connection with a shooting that occurred near a local convenience store on Chalmers Street on the afternoon of Aug. 1.


According to South Boston Police Office records, Wells faces charges of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious shooting and possession of a firearm by a felon. 

Cpl. M. W. Bowen served the warrant.

Wells is currently being held without bond in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. 

Markcus White, 23, of South Boston was wounded in the Aug. 1 shooting. 

According to Det. C. L. Carswell, White reported he and Wells had been involved in an alleged confrontation at the time he was shot.

White suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, and was transported to Halifax County Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injury and released.

In other South Boston arrests:

Jennifer G. Conner, 46, of Scottsburg faces charges of driving under the influence, fourth offense, and driving on a revoked license.

 The alleged offenses occurred Monday, and Officer T. W. Bush served the warrants the same day. 

Conner was being held without bond.
