South Boston man sought in Wednesday shooting

South Boston Police are searching for Calvin Wells, a 25-year-old South Boston man, in connection with a shooting that occurred near a local convenience store on Chalmers Street Wednesday afternoon.

Markcus White, 23, of South Boston was wounded in the shooting. 

According to Det. C. L. Carswell, White reported he and Wells had been involved in an alleged confrontation at the time he was shot. 

White suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to Halifax County Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injury and released.

Wells has outstanding warrants on file for felony malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said. 

Wednesday afternoon’s shooting is the second shooting South Boston Police are investigating in the town over the past three days.
