South Boston man faces charge in wreck

A 23-year-old South Boston man was charged with failing to yield the right of way following a wreck Monday at the intersection of Old Halifax Road and Tabernacle Trail in South Boston.

According to an accident report filed by South Boston Police Officer A. Davis, Kevin Bogan was driving a 1989 Nissan 240SX traveling west on Old Halifax Road when he ran a red light and struck a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 truck on the driver’s side. The truck was driven by Ned Henderson Jr. who was entering the intersection from Tabernacle Trail. 

No one was injured.

Davis estimated damage to the Nissan at $4,000 and damage to the Chevrolet at $2,500.

A 28-year-old South Boston woman was charged with driver inattention following a wreck that occurred Wednesday on Old Halifax Road, 50 feet west of Dan River Church Road in South Boston.

According to an accident report filed by South Boston Police Officer C. L. Collie, Cartrest R. Coleman was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on Old Halifax Road when she fell asleep and struck a 2001 Chrysler Concorde driven by 53-year-old Michael T. Coleman of South Boston. Michael Coleman was traveling west on Old Halifax Road. The impact caused Michael Coleman to strike a fence. Cartrest Coleman continued on and struck a VDOT reflector post.

Both drivers reported sustaining minor injuries.

Collie estimated damage to the Chevrolet at $3,000, damage to the Chrysler at $5,000 and damage to the VDOT reflector post at $500.

A 64-year-old South Boston man was charged with reckless   driving/failure to maintain proper control following a wreck Sunday evening on State Route 706, one mile west of State Route 704 in South Boston.

According to an accident report filed by State Trooper J. R. Abbott, Richard L. Whitten was driving a 1999 Honda Accord when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

Whitten who was wearing his seatbelt sustained minor injuries and was transported. 

Abbott estimated damage to the Honda at $3,500.
