James Calvin Clements

Mr. James Calvin Clements of Vernon Hill died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on Jan. 28, 1924 and was 89 years old. He was the son of the late Frank T. Clements and the late Martha Frances Bray Clements and was married to Mary Elizabeth Cosby Clements who survives.

Mr. Clements was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 8. He was also an avid golfer and sportsman.

In addition to his wife of Vernon Hill, survivors include one son, Jimmy Clements, of Halifax; one daughter, Janet Clements, of Richmond; one brother, Ralph Clements, of Dillwyn; one sister, Nancy Leonard, of Nathalie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, Aubrey, Elwood and Brice Clements; and three sisters, Frances Crews, Dot Smith and Rebecca Jane Clements, also preceded Mr. Clements in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Revs. Pat Neilson and Dr. Melvin Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service.
