Lightning strikes apartment in South Boston

Lightning struck a Woodcrest apartment early Sunday morning causing approximately $15,000 in damage, but no one was injured, according to a South Boston Fire Department spokesperson.

Nine South Boston firefighters assisted by Halifax Fire Department volunteers responded to the report of lightning striking Woodcrest Apartment 328-A around 1:35 a.m.

The spokesman said lightning ran along the outside of the building and then went into the apartment and was electrical in nature.

Firemen remained on the scene until 2:51 a.m.
