Storm Knocks Out Power For Some County Residents

Rain and gusting winds have plagued Halifax County since Tuesday afternoon and taken their toll in the form of power outages, according to Dominion Virginia Power officials.

“In the South Boston area, we’ve had 350 customers affected by outages,” said Dan Genest, Dominion Virginia Power spokesman. “As of Thursday afternoon, we had 253 customers without power, with approximately 150 of those in the Scottsburg area.”

Genest said tree limbs that had fallen on power wires caused the outage in and around Scottsburg. He said there were a total of 14 separate outages in Halifax County, and as of Thursday afternoon, Dominion crews were working to restore power in six work locations, Genest said.

Brian Mosier of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative reported no power outages in Halifax County. “We have 200 customers without power in Pittsylvania County and 60 in Mecklenburg County, but none in Halifax County,” Mosier said.

To report a power outage, Dominion Virginia Power customers should call 1-888-667-3000, and Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative customers should call 1-877-632-5688.
