South Boston Police Investigate Break-in At Jiffy Store

South Boston police are investigating a break-in at Jiffy Food Store on John Randolph Boulevard, according to Captain B. K. Lovelace.

Officer J. C. Berry was called to the store Thursday at 3:28 a.m. for a reported burglary, Lovelace said.

Berry reported that entry was gained into the store though the glass door, which had been broken out with a brick. Items taken include several packs of cigarettes and cigarette lighters, the captain said.

Investigator C. L. Carswell was assigned to follow up on the case, Lovelace said. A review of the store surveillance video revealed a black male wearing a dark blue jacket and gloves entering the store and taking the cigarettes and lighters, the captain added.

Anyone with information about this crime, or any other crime, is asked to contact the South Boston Police Department at 434-575-4273.

In other police matters, a 32-year-old Halifax man has been charged with felony providing false information in order to purchase a gun, according to sheriff’s office records.

Derrick Lamont Coleman of Meadville Road was charged for the offense that allegedly occurred March 3.

Sgt. Q. W. Clark served the warrant Tuesday.
