Town Of Halifax Residents Urged To Check Tax Bills

A computer error occurred in the calculation of the total amount of vehicle license fees owed on recent tax statements mailed to Halifax residents, according to the County Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.

Halifax Town Manager Carl Espy encourages residents and businesses to carefully review their personal property tax notice to confirm the appropriate vehicle license fee has been assessed for the property they own ($25 per automobile or recreational vehicle and $5 per motorcycle) as of Jan. 1.

Adjustments will be made in the case of overcharges, and in the event of overpayment, the town will provide a refund, Espy said.
