Public Schools’ Education Foundation Campaign Under Way

The Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation (HCPSEF) is currently contacting businesses and individuals throughout Halifax County in a fall campaign to raise funds, according to HCPSEF President Logan Young.

In addition to raising funds, the purpose of the fall campaign is to educate the public about the foundation’s mission to “Create and enhance educational opportunities for children in Halifax County.”
Young said he sees the fall campaign as an opportunity for businesses to include the foundation in their annual giving cycle.

“The Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation was established as a 50(c)3 organization under the Internal Revenue Service regulations,” Young said. “It was created to develop and provide alternative financial resources for educational programs in the Halifax County Public Schools system.

“The foundation is a great vehicle for enabling contributors and donors to make tax exempt contributions for supporting educational opportunities that may not be funded or fully funded through the school system’s operating and capital budgets,” Young continued. “The partnership between the foundation and the school system offers benefits to contributors and schools alike. It is a natural fit.”

Founded in 2005, the foundation currently has 19 directors and a part-time executive director, according to Young. Recent donations to the organization have led to $34,000 in scholarships awarded in the last two years to high school seniors, he added.

Additionally, the foundation has awarded 48 teacher mini-grants over the past two years totaling more than $16,000 for innovative projects that have benefitted students in all county schools, according to Audrey Davidson, foundation executive director.

“We are always looking for public-private partnership opportunities in the community,” Davidson said. “No gifts are too large or small, and so many children benefit from them. We also hope individuals will remember us in their wills as they think about the long-term educational success of the community.”

Any businesses or individuals interested in learning more about the work of the foundation or how a tax-deductible gift can be made should contact Davidson at Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1114, Halifax, VA 24558, or call 434-476-5529.
