Calling themselves “People for Woodson,” this group of approximately 30 area residents gathered at the South Boston Library Thursday evening to show their support for Woodson Hughes, former South Boston Library branch manager who recently resigned.
The group of people waved homemade painted signs and banners to show their support, as numerous passersby honked their horns to show support.
The supporters picketed the South Boston branch following the Tuesday meeting of the Halifax County-South Boston Regional Library Board when board members took no action on reinstating Hughes who resigned amid allegations he failed to collect library fines. Organizers of a petition drive on Hughes’ behalf have obtained over 600 signatures seeking the library manager’s reinstatement.
A number of Hughes’ supporters also have written letters to the editor voicing their opinion on the library manager’s resignation that ignited controversy in the community culminating with former Friends of the Library President Ron Miller’s resignation in protest.
