Halifax Regional Pays Tribute To New Physicians


Halifax Regional Health System honored seven new physicians and their families at the recent new physician reception Oct. 8.

The physicians have all joined Halifax Regional’s medical staff in the past year, and the event provides an opportunity for them to meet community leaders from Halifax, Mecklenburg and Charlotte counties.

In addition, two new family nurse practitioners and a physician assistant also were recognized during the reception.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome these new physicians and talented medical professionals to our medical staff, and we are honored to add their expertise to the services we offer our patients and their families,” said Chris Lumsden, chief executive officer for Halifax Regional Health System. “We extend our warmest greetings, and we hope they will feel comfortable and take advantage of all the great things that South Boston, Halifax County and Southern Virginia have to offer.”

Lumsden thanked members of the Health System’s Board of Directors and all physicians for supporting the hospital’s recruitment efforts to bring new doctors to the region. He introduced each of the new physicians and recognized their families.

Those physicians who have joined the HRHS medical staff during the past year include Remberto J. Bitar, M.D., Arash Chehrazi, M.D., Chad M. Henry, M.D., James E. McCubbin, IV, M.D., Victor J. Mihal, D.O., Olubukola Ojuola, M.D., M.P.H. and W. John Zehner, M.D.

The two new family nurse practitioners are Claudia Perkins, F.N.P., and Senecca Kirkhart, F.N.P., and the new physician assistant is Eugene Jackson, P.A.-C.
Dr. Bitar, who has joined Pulmonary Associates of Southside Virginia, Inc., completed his residency in internal medicine at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and Saint Michael’s Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Bitar completed his fellowship through Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education and Saint Michael’s Medical Center, and he received his medical degree from Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Senora del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia.
Dr. Bitar is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and critical care. He is the most recent addition to the HRH medical staff, serving as both a pulmonologist and hospitalist.

Dr. Chehrazi is board certified in radiology and completed his medical degree and his diagnostic radiology residency at the Medical College of Virginia at VCU Medical Center. He completed his transitional internship at Georgetown University Medical Center and he holds a bachelor’s degree in both chemistry and computer science from Georgetown University. Dr. Chehrazi joins the medical staff in HRH’s radiology department.

Dr. Henry is board certified in internal medicine and received his medical degree from the Saba University School of Medicine in Saba, Netherlands-Antilles. He completed his internal medicine residency at Carilion Clinic, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a biochemistry specialization from the University of Virginia. Dr. Henry joins the HRH medical staff as a hospitalist.

Dr. McCubbin, who is board certified in emergency medicine, earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his undergraduate degree in applied science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. McCubbin completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. McCubbin joins the medical staff of HRH’s emergency department.   

Dr. Mihal completed his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, and he completed his residency at Community Hospital/PSLMC in Denver, CO. He is board certified in family practice. Dr. Mihal joined the medical staff of HRH’s emergency department.

Dr. Ojuola, who has joined Fuller-Roberts Clinic, Inc., completed her residency in pediatrics training at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Ojuola completed her master’s degree in public health at Harvard University in Boston and received her medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria.  

Dr. Zehner is board certified in emergency medicine and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at Penn State University. Dr. Zehner completed his residency in emergency medicine and his fellowship training in emergency medical services at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He joined the medical staff in HRH’s emergency department.
