Fire heavily damaged this unoccupied Brooks Drive house Sunday afternoon, according to a South Boston Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters were called to 1015 Brooks Drive for a reported house fire at 2:19 p.m. Sunday, the spokesman said. Upon arrival they found heavy smoke throughout the house and fire in what had been the laundry room. The blaze spread to the roof area shortly after firefighters arrived, according to the spokesman. South Boston Fire Department responded with three trucks and 15 firefighters and was assisted by Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department with one truck and five firefighters. They remained on the scene approximately three and a half hours. Damage to the modular home was estimated at $80,000, the spokesman said. This was the second fire at this address in less than two months. The spokesman said firefighters extinguished a fire at the same home on Aug. 14. The cause of Sunday’s fire is under investigation by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, according to the fire department spokesman.
