Riley J. Hart, manager of Southern States Cooperative, Inc. – South Boston Petroleum Service, has won the President’s Operating Excellence Award.
Only 46 service managers from Southern States 23-state territory earned this award, which Hart has won three times since the program’s inception in 1987.
The awards are based on performance for the past fiscal year which ends on June 30 for all service locations.
All Southern States managers are eligible to win, but the standards - equaling or surpassing the high standards on return on capital, net profit and productivity – are difficult to achieve, even in the best of economies.
“We are always exceptionally proud of all our winners, but even more so this year,” said Donny Dunbar, vice president of retail operations. “Our managers did an outstanding job providing service to our patrons. We also need to honor the employees at South Boston Petroleum Service. It is the team that ensures good customer service and the long term effort to partner with our customers.”
Founded in 1923, Southern States now has more than 300,000 farmer-members.
As one of the nation’s largest agricultural cooperatives, the Richmond based firm provides a wide range of farm inputs, including fertilizer, seed, livestock feed and pet food, animal health supplies and petroleum products as well as other items for the farm and home.
The cooperative serves its members and non-member customers through some 1,200 retail outlets and had sales just under $2 billion in its fiscal year ended June 30.
