Featuring exciting rides and shows, the 99th Annual Halifax County Fair opened Tuesday and will run through Saturday at the Halifax County Fairgrounds on Route 360 in South Boston.
This year Cole Shows Amusement Company, Inc. are manning the midway with their exciting rides and shows.
The midway will open at 5 p.m. daily through Friday and on Saturday at noon.
Specials will be available on the rides throughout fair week.
On Wednesday and Thursday unlimited rides will be offered until 10 p.m. for those wearing $20 wristbands that will be sold from 5 to 9 p.m. and honored until 10 p.m.
On Friday, ride tickets will be $1 each or 24 tickets for $20 and 48 for $40.
Saturday will feature an unlimited ride matinee with $20 wristbands being sold from noon until 4 p.m. and honored until 5 p.m.
No coupons will be honored for this ride special.
Free grandstands shows will be provided nightly.
Wednesday night, Jimmy Fortune will take center stage on the grandstand at 8 p.m., Thursday night the North Carolina A & Dumline will be on stage at 8 p.m. and on Friday Country music artist Chuck Wicks is the headliner at 8 p.m.
Saturday Bluegrass Festival
The Bluegrass Festival will kick off at noon Saturday with Halifax County’s Lawson Creek Grass, followed at 1 p.m. by the all-female band Sweet Potato Pie. At 3 p.m., Al Batten & Bluegrass Experience will take the stage.
Saturday afternoon encores include Lawson Creek Grass at 3 p.m., Sweet Potato Pie at 4 p.m. and Al Batten & Bluegrass Experience performing from 5-6 p.m.
The Dan Tyminski Band will be the final band to take the stage Saturday with its performance at 8 p.m. Tyminski’s resume includes membership in Alison Krauss and Union Station. He is best known for his updated version of “Man of Constant Sorrows.”
The Wide World of Animals will be featured Tuesday through Saturday with the following schedules. Tuesday, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.; Wednesday, 11 a.m., noon and 7 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m., noon and 7 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m., noon and 7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Spectacular fireworks are scheduled Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights provided by Dominion Fireworks.
Admission at gate is $6 for adults, $2 for children 3-11, and 2 and under free.
The fair is sponsored by the Halifax County Board of Supervisors and the Halifax County Fair Committee.
