Police Charge County Man In Paving Scam

One of two men allegedly involved in a paving scam last month in Halifax County was arrested Wednesday on two felony charges, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Daniel Stanley Jr., 43, Indian Trail Road, Buffalo Junction, was charged with felony obtaining by false pretense $700 in currency belonging to Shirley Jackson. He also was charged with felony obtaining by false pretense $350 in currency belonging to Faye Fuqua, Noblin said. The offenses allegedly occurred on or about August 25.

Sgt. D. H. Barksdale arrested Stanley at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Stanley was released Wednesday on a $10,000 secured bond, Noblin said.

• According to sheriff’s office records, a 20-year-old Buffalo Junction man is facing two felony charges.

Daniel Darrell Jiggetts of Terry Street was charged with one felony count of grand larceny and with felony entering a dwelling, house, etc., with intent to commit a felony.

The offenses allegedly occurred Jan. 22, and Deputy C. S. Yeatts served the warrants Wednesday.

• Marcus Levar Stovall, 19, W. Oak Hill Drive, Halifax, was charged with felony distribution of marijuana.

The offense allegedly occurred March 22, and Deputy J. M. Burton served the warrant Thursday.

w Syllina Watkins, 25, Cole Lane, Scottsburg, was charged with two felony counts of writing a bad check of $200 or more.

The offenses allegedly occurred July 21, 2008, and Deputy C. S. Yeatts served the warrants Wednesday.

• Virginia B. Lankford, 73, Guill Town Road, Scottsburg, was charged with two counts of felony embezzlement.

The offenses allegedly occurred April 1, 2008, and Deputy J. P. Adams served the warrants Tuesday.

•  Charles Paul Cross, 18, Hummingbird Lane, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor petty larceny.

The offense allegedly occurred Sept. 1, and Cpl. T. C. Spencer served the warrant Tuesday.

• Kimberly Crystal Henderson, 30, Dan River Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offense allegedly occurred Saturday, and Deputy Adams served the warrant Tuesday.

•  Micheal Laneave Thackston, 42, Dan River Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

The offense allegedly occurred Saturday, and Deputy Adams served the warrant Tuesday.

• Matthew Scott Wilkerson, 28, Bradley Creek Road, Nathalie, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy S. Britton served the warrant Tuesday.

• William Edward Wilkerson Jr., 58, Hundley Road, Scottsburg, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offense allegedly occurred Monday, and Deputy Burton served the warrant Thursday.

•  Micheala Amber Boyd, 28, Union Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor parking in a prohibited zone.

The offense allegedly occurred March 27, and Deputy Burton served the warrant Thursday.

•  Mark William Womack, 31, Carrington Street, South Boston, was served a capias alleging violation of the terms of his probation.

The offense allegedly occurred August 28, and the capias was served Tuesday.
