Voter turnout for Tuesday’s Republican Presidential Primary in Halifax County was extremely light, according to Halifax County Registrar Judy Meeler.
With only two names on the ballot, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, a light turnout had been expected, according to Meeler, who was hoping for a 10 percent turnout of registered voters.
“I don’t think we’re going to reach it,” Meeler said early Tuesday afternoon. A total of 100 voters had cast ballots at 10 precincts in the county as of 1:18 p.m., said Meeler, and only 30 voters had cast ballots at the South Boston East and South Boston West precincts as workers there waited patiently for more voters to arrive Tuesday afternoon.
