Volunteers sought for cleanup in Virgilina

Volunteers wishing to help clean up the Virgilina community left behind by last Saturday afternoon’s  EF2 tornado are being asked to register at North Fork Baptist Church Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m.

North Fork Baptist Church is located at 1146 North Fork Church Road.

Coordinated by Halifax County Emergency Services and the American Red Cross, Saturday’s cleanup will continue in the Virgilina community through 7 p.m.

“Any groups or individuals wishing to volunteer are asked to come to the registration site at North Fork Baptist Church where they will receive assignments,” said Emergency Services Director Kirby Saunders.

He also encouraged all volunteers to wear long pants and closed-toed shoes as assignments will involve cutting up trees and picking up debris.
