Fire strikes Cluster Springs home

Fire heavily damaged a Cluster Springs home early Wednesday morning.

Four fire departments were called at 4:06 a.m. for a report of a house fire at the home of James Lort at 1039 Cluster Springs Road, according to fire officials.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke in the majority of the single-story wood frame and siding home, officials said.

Firefighters from Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department, South Boston Fire Department, Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department and Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department battled the blaze for just over two hours.

The house sustained smoke damage to the entire house and heavy fire damage to most of the interior, officials said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.
