Suspect faces 76 more sex charges

Michael Thomas Epps, 38, of West Oak Hill Drive, Halifax has been charged with 76 additional felony sex counts in three indictments handed down by Halifax County Circuit Court, according to Halifax County Sheriff’s Office records.

Epps was previously served with 28 felony sex charges in one indictment on Jan. 18.

The latest charges against Epps include the following:

• 13 felony counts of aggravated sexual of a person less than 13 years old;

• 15 felony counts of a parent violating a child under the age of 15;

• 17 felony counts of sodomy of a family member;

• 16 felony counts of sodomy of a child under the age of 13;

• three felony counts of incest with own child;

• one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child;

• three felony counts of rape of a child under the age of 13;

• two felony counts of aggravated sexual battery by a parent of a child 13-17 years of age;

• two felony counts of incest with a child 13-17 years of age;

• two felony counts of rape by force/threats; and

• two felony counts of object sexual penetration.

The offenses allegedly occurred over a period of time ranging from July 7, 2007 through Oct. 29, 2010.

Deputy J. O. Tanner served the capias warrants Wednesday.

Epps was previously charged on one indictment with eight felony counts of aggravated sexual battery of a person less than 13 years old, eight felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, four felony counts of incest with a child or grandchild, three felony counts of forcible rape, one felony count of forcible sodomy, two felony counts of sodomy, one felony count of aggravated sexual assault and one felony count of object sexual penetration.

The offenses allegedly occurred over a period of time ranging from July 1, 2005 through Sept. 1, 2010. Deputy J. M. Burton served the capias warrants under the first indictment.

•  Robinson Rodriquez, 34, L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Nathalie, was charged with being a fugitive from justice.

The offense allegedly occurred Tuesday, and Deputy W. G. Nunn served the warrant the same day.

•  In other law enforcement matters, deputies are investigating a break-in of a county residence Wednesday night, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Sometime that night while homeowner Bonnie Snow was at church, someone kicked open the back door and entered her Chatham Road home, Noblin said.

The thief stole a small safe containing an undisclosed amount of jewelry, the sheriff said.
