North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Treasurer Tracey Tribble presents a check for $25,000 to NHVFD President Kenny Wynn.
The check represents proceeds raised by the Ladies Auxiliary during the year, including the annual NHVFD Marathon.
The quilting ladies raised $3,500 with the annual quilt raffle. The funds will be used for needs of the fire department, including the new fire station constructed near the site of the existing building.
This year the ladies auxiliary will hold four major fundraisers including a turkey luncheon on March 20, Vera Bradley Bingo on April 17, annual Marathon on Sept. 20 and a Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3.
Throughout the year, the women sell cookbooks, Rada knives, Happy Home flavoring and birthday calendars. In 2010 the fire department ran 509 total calls, 482 EMS and 27 fire.
They logged 25,684 miles on the vehicles operated by the department, and 3,450 man-hours were logged during 2010. Since Jan. 1, the department has answered 36 calls, 35 EMS and one fire.
