Halifax ACE team win Western Valley District tournament championship

The Halifax County High School ACE team accomplished something Tuesday night that hadn’t been done in the last decade. Not only did the team claim the regular season district championship earlier this year, but members also clinched the Western Valley District tournament championship title during the Scholastic Bowl held at HCHS Tuesday evening.

Answering tough questions such as “One character created by this man founds the Church of God the Utterly Indifferent and predicts the future of Malachi Constant. This author of novels such as “Galapagos” and “Timequake” wrote a novel taking place on San Lorenzo, the home of a religion known as Bokononism. In another of his novels, Montana Wildhack is imprisoned in a zoo along with the protagonist by the Tramalfadorians. That protagonist is Billy Pilgrim. For 10 points, name this author of “Cat’s Cradle” and Slaughterhouse-Five.”

The answer – Kurt Vonnegut

Proud Coach Beth Layne praised her team Tuesday following their victory congratulating them for a season filled with much hard work.

Now the ACE team will travel to regional competition Feb. 12 at Stonewall Jackson High School.
