Groups to celebrate life, legacy of King

The Halifax County Business and Professional Council will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Ferry Street. The guest preacher will be the Rev. William J. Coleman.  He will be accompanied by the Cross Road Baptist Church of Evington.

The Rev. Coleman is president and CEO of Tri-County Community Action Agency, Inc. and Halifax County Community Credit Union and is a county native.

Before starting his position at Tri-County, the Rev. Coleman owned and operated an accounting firm and served at a retirement community as the human resource director in Lynchburg.

The Rev. Coleman has served as pastor of Cross Roads Baptist Church since 1979.  First Lady Jessie Coleman and the Rev. Coleman reside in the Evington community.  They have two children and one grandson.

The community is invited to attend the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration when the life of Dr. King will be honored and remembered and his work for equality and social justice celebrated.

The Halifax County Business and Professional Council also will recognize several community leaders during the program for their dedication and commitment.
