Kenneth C. Martin of Crystal Hill has been named the residency maintenance manager (RMM) for the Halifax Residency of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Halifax Residency includes the counties of Halifax and Pittsylvania.
T. A. Wiles, IV, assistant district administrator for maintenance in VDOT’s Lynchburg District, said, “We are delighted to have an employee with Kenneth’s experience and demonstrated abilities in this leadership role.”
Martin has over 30 years of service with VDOT.
He began his career as a crew member and progressed through the ranks to become superintendent at the Volens Area Headquarters in Halifax County.
Most recently, he was the residency maintenance program manager and acting RMM.
Martin has spent his entire career working for VDOT.
Former Halifax Residency Administrator Joe D. Barkley II said he hired Martin “right out of high school,” noting he went to work as an operator at the Volens headquarters.
Since that time, Martin moved to the shop as a storekeeper for all the parts, and from the shop he was promoted to Bethel as timekeeper and fiscal assistant.
At Bethel he was promoted to crew leader and then supervisor before working at Crafton’s Gate in Charlotte County for nine months as a supervisor.
He returned to Volens as the superintendent, and from there he was promoted to the maintenance job in Halifax.
As residency maintenance manager, Martin will use his experience with VDOT in the position that covers Halifax County and Pittsylvania County.
