Police charge 77-year-old SoBo woman with multiple felonies

A 77-year-old South Boston woman is facing a total of 12 felony charges related to welfare fraud, according to Halifax County Sheriff’s Office records.

Lucy Williams Norwood of Bill Tuck Highway was charged with six felony counts each of public assistance fraud and making false statements on an application for public assistance.
The offenses allegedly occurred June 3, 2004, July 7, 2005, June 19, 2006, April 5, 2007, June 5, 2007 and April 8, 2008.

Deputy C. S. Hudson served the warrants Tuesday.

• Gracie Ann Jones, 27, St. Michaels Drive, South Boston, was charged with one felony count of fraudulently selling a vehicle valued at $200 or more.

The offense allegedly occurred Oct. 16, and Cpl. P. C. Clayton served the warrant Tuesday.

• David Scott Lester, 33, Liberty Road, Nathalie, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of making threats over the telephone.

The offenses allegedly occurred Saturday, and Cpl. C. S. Yeatts served the warrants Wednesday.

• Sue Allen Wilborn, 22, Grubby Road, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a family or household member.

The offense allegedly occurred Nov. 16, and Deputy Hudson served the warrant Tuesday.

• Linda Ewell Terry, 56, Gabrieline Lane, Crystal Hill, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

The offense allegedly occurred Nov. 25, and Deputy C. A. Bates served the warrant Wednesday.

• Tina Renee Grim, 42, Dunn Trail, Vernon Hill, was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice.

The offense allegedly occurred Sunday, and Deputy Bates served the warrant Wednesday.

• Samuel Coleman Jr., 41, James Trail, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor trespassing.

The offense allegedly occurred Wednesday, and Cpl. Yeatts served the warrant the same day.

• Rodney Dale Henderson, 33, Cluster Springs Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor violating the provisions of a juvenile protection order.

The offense allegedly occurred Wednesday, and Deputy Bates served the warrant the same day.

• Lisa Loretta Morris, 41, Linden Place, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The offense allegedly occurred Wednesday, and Sgt. D. H. Barksdale served the warrant that night.

•  Michael Theodore Kesack, 25, Dairy Farm Road, Red Oak, was charged with misdemeanor DUI.

The offense allegedly occurred Aug. 22, and Deputy T. B. Sargent served the warrant Wednesday night.

In other law enforcement matters, deputies are investigating the theft of a set of license plates, according to Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Someone stole the Virginia license plates, XRX-1778, from a Ford van belonging to Revelation Baptist Church sometime over the past few days, Noblin said.

Deputy Hudson is the investigating officer.
