Holiday season opens in ‘village’

The holiday season officially opens Sunday in the Town of Halifax as the Halifax Village Business Association (HVBA) hosts the annual “Christmas in the Village” open house.

Many member businesses will be open to greet shoppers from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, according to HVBA President Carol Throckmorton.

“It should be a wonderful afternoon in the Village of Halifax as businesses are decked out in their holiday finery,” Throckmorton said. “Shoppers can visit their favorite Halifax businesses and register for door prizes.”

Merchants who will be open include The Cozy Cottage, The Packhouse, Halifax Floral and Framing Studio, Convergence Art Guild, Hite Insurance, Peddler’s Market and Exchange Store, Triangle Florist and Halifax Town Hall.

“In addition, Halifax United Methodist Church will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. with docents attired in period dress welcoming guests, sharing the history of the church and celebrating the season,” Throckmorton said. “The public also can enjoy refreshments at the historic Halifax Masonic Lodge from 1 to 3 p.m.”

Shoppers and guests can register in member businesses for a shopping spree valued at $1,000. “The drawing will be held at Town Hall at 5:30,” said Throckmorton.

Youngsters ages 12 and under can participate in crafts at Halifax Town Hall throughout the afternoon. “They’ll be making a reindeer hand puppet, an ‘I Am Thankful’ cross, a holiday ornament and a Christmas tree bookmark,” said town employee Melissa Carr. “The children also can enjoy Christmas music and refreshments.”

Everyone is invited to bring in the holiday season from 1 to 5 Sunday afternoon in the Town of Halifax at “Christmas in the Village” open house.
