Blaze causes $140,000 in damages to South Boston house

Nobody was injured, but an early afternoon fire Sunday caused extensive damage to a South Boston residence, according to a South Boston Fire Department spokesman.

South Boston fireman James Short said the call came in at 12:24 p.m. for a fire at a residence located at 915 North Main St.

The fire department spokesman listed the owner of the two-story frame house as Thomas Eggleston and the occupants as John and Susan Follette.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and a family friend discovered the blaze and called the fire department, according to Short.

Short said three trucks and 15 personnel from his department were on the scene as well as three trucks and approximately 10 personnel from Halifax Volunteer Fire Department.

Damages were estimated at $140,000, and the cause of the fire is undetermined, the spokesman added.
