Womack Publishing to buy The News-Progress

Mecklenburg News Inc. has agreed to sell The News Progress to Womack Publishing Company, Inc., News-Progress owner Linda Shelton announced this week. The sale is expected to close and become effective Nov. 30, Shelton said.

The News-Progress, a sister publication of The Gazette-Virginian, has an office located in Chase City and covers Mecklenburg County.

Once the sale of the newspaper becomes effective, The News-Progress will join Womack Publishing Company’s numerous publications including the South Hill Enterprise, also located in Mecklenburg County.

Based in Chatham, Womack Publishing Company is a family-owned company that publishes 14 community newspapers in Virginia and North Carolina.

Womack also publishes telephone directories, monthly magazines, visitors’ guides and a number of other publications.
