Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer Nov. 1

The Baptist Women’s World Day of prayer will be observed Monday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church located at 220 Ferry Street in South Boston. The first Monday of November each year has been set aside to celebrate the Baptist Women’s Day of Prayer.

Over the past 50 years this day has brought together Baptist women from around the world to pray and to give so that the world will be impacted for Christ, according to Althea Whitlow of South Boston.

The one-day celebration has expanded to include, in some situations, a weekend prayer retreat, special activities for the entire church, and other opportunities throughout the month of November, she explained.

The theme for this year’s study is “In Step with the Spirit,” based on Galatians 5:25: “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

According to Whitlow, “This verse will help Baptist women to be actively involved in our mission to work towards peace, reconciliation, justice and development through prayer, witness and service.”

Whitlow said sisters in Christ from the Banister Association, the Sunnyside Association and the Dan River Association will join in praying for women around the world on Nov. 1.

The public is invited to attend this prayer event.

“This is a time of fellowship, worship and praying with other women in our country,” she said.
