HCHS takes steps to improve safety at football games

As a result of several safety concerns being expressed to the Halifax County High School (HCHS) administration and Halifax County School Board, a new procedure for fans attending home football games will be put in effect for Friday’s game with George Washington High School, HCHS Principal Albert Randolph said this week.

This procedure was developed following a meeting last Wednesday with local and state law enforcement and Halifax County High School Principal Randolph and Athletic Director Allen Lawter, the high school principal said.

• Specifically, all spectators are required to be seated in the bleachers unless they are visiting the concession stand or restroom facilities.

• Secondly, the area in front of the home and visitor bleachers will be posted as a “no standing” zone.

“This restriction will be enforced by school administrators assisted by law enforcement officers,” Randolph said.

• And thirdly, all elementary students must be accompanied by an adult in order to be admitted.

“This new procedure is not intended to interfere with a spectator’s enjoyment of the event, but to insure that everyone can enjoy the game in a safe, secure environment,” the principal said.
