Car hits 12-year-old Nathalie boy

A 12-year-old Nathalie boy was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Friday after being struck by a car on State Route 621 (Chisolm Trail) in Nathalie.

According to an accident report filed by investigating State Trooper J. R. Abbott, 19-year-old Demetric Shawn Jones of Nathalie was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Corsica headed west on Chisolm Trail Friday at 2:42 p.m. when the  car struck the youth.

The accident occurred one-tenth of a mile west of State Route 642 when trees  and bushes blocking the roadway apparently obscured the driver’s vision, state police said.

The accident report indicated the youth came out of a driveway on the driver’s left and was struck by the left front of the Corsica.

The driver and three passengers in the vehicle were not injured, state police said.

The boy was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and authorities said Sunday afternoon they had received no word on his condition.

According to the accident report, Jones was traveling below the 55 mph speed limit at the time of the accident, and no charges have been filed as of press time Sunday evening.

Trooper Abbott estimated damage to the 1994 Corsica at $800.
