When Linda Cole of South Boston discovered she had won $150,000 in the Virginia Lottery’s The Price is Right Scratcher game, the scene may have looked a little like a television game show.
“The clerk started screaming. I started screaming. Everyone started screaming,” she told Virginia Lottery officials as she claimed her prize.
Cole had just become the first top-prize winner in the Virginia Lottery’s Scratcher based on the popular game show of the same name. She bought the ticket at Apple Market, 6015 Huell Matthews Highway in South Boston.
“It’s surreal,” she said. “It feels like a dream.”
The Price is Right is one of dozens of Scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery. It features a second-chance drawing, in which players can enter non-winning tickets for a chance to win great prizes like a big screen TV, prize packages, a scooter and more.
Six second-chance drawings will be held. All entries will be eligible for the final sweepstakes drawing for $150,000.

The Virginia Lottery generates approximately $1.2 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools.
Operating entirely on revenue from the sale of Lottery products, rather than tax dollars, the Virginia Lottery raised more than $430.2 million for Virginia’s public schools in fiscal year 2010. That represents about 8 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia.
