Halifax County authorities probe stolen copper wire

Deputies are investigating the theft of copper wire in the Cluster Springs area, according to Halifax County Sheriff Stanley Noblin.

Sometime over the weekend a large amount of copper wire was stolen from a Verizon cell-phone tower site located off Horse Shoe Trail, Noblin said.

The wire was valued at approximately $1,000, he added.

Deputy C. A. Bates and Investigator C. J. Yeatts are the investigating officers.

• In other law enforcement matters, a 44-year-old South Boston woman is facing four felony charges, according to sheriff’s office records.
Michelle Elizabeth Lynn-Crawley of Cluster Springs Road was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony. She also was charged with felony grand larceny.

Two of the firearms offenses allegedly occurred Jan.1, one allegedly occurred June 1, and the grand larceny offense allegedly occurred May 26.

Deputy T. B. Sargent served the warrants Tuesday.

• David Shelton Holt, 29, Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston, was charged with two felony counts of receiving a stolen firearm.

The offenses allegedly occurred March 19, and Cpl. P. C. Clayton served the warrants Saturday night.

• Kenneth Wayne Helton, 41, James D. Hagood Highway, Scottsburg, was charged with two felony counts of check forgery.

The offenses allegedly occurred May 29, and Deputy J. M. Burton served the warrants Tuesday.

• Brad Kelly Wood, 36, Wood Lane, Saxe, was charged with felony writing a bad check of more than $200-two within a period of 90 days.

The offense allegedly occurred April 11, and Cpl. Clayton served the warrant Friday night.

• Raymundo Calestino, 31, Spaulding Avenue, Keysville, was charged with three misdemeanors including DUI, refusing a blood or breath test and driving while not licensed.

The offenses allegedly occurred Sunday, and Cpl. Clayton served the warrants the same day.

• Michael Velasquez Gonzalez, 19, Lewis Ferrell Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor petty larceny. He also was charged with misdemeanor vandalism-damaging property belonging to another person.

The offenses allegedly occurred Sept. 2, and Deputy J. P. Adams served the warrants Sunday.

• Gregory Wendell Newman, 22, Ferry Street, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor selling or distributing less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

The offense allegedly occurred Thursday, and Sgt. D. H. Barksdale served the warrant Monday.

• Stevie Thomas Taylor, 42, Cole Street, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The offense allegedly occurred May 12, and Cpl. Clayton served the warrant Friday night.

• Jacqueline Arnese Hammon, 53, Melon Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor giving false reports to police.

The offense allegedly occurred Thursday, and Cpl. C. S. Yeatts served the warrant Monday.

•  iffany Reese Wyman, 20, Leighwood Trail, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor making threats over the telephone.

The offense allegedly occurred Thursday, and Cpl. Clayton served the warrant Saturday night.

• Vera Lea Garner, 32, East Hyco Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor violating the provisions of a juvenile protection order.

The offense allegedly occurred Sunday, and Sgt. T. C. Spencer served the warrant the same day.

• James Berkley Priest, 34, Asbury Church Road, Vernon Hill, was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving.

The offense allegedly occurred June 8, and Deputy T. B. Sargent served the warrant Tuesday.

• Mattie A. Weaver-McKenzie, 41, Lewis Ferrell Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving-speeding.

The offense allegedly occurred Aug. 29, and Deputy C. A. Bates served the warrant Saturday.

• Robert Haley Hughes, 18, Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor drunk in public.

The offense allegedly occurred Saturday, and Deputy C. S. Hudson served the warrant that night.

• Krissy Lee Milam, 23, Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor drunk in public.

The offense allegedly occurred Saturday, and Deputy Hudson served the warrant that night.

• Efrain Alto-Delaluz, 36, Keysville, was charged with misdemeanor drunk in public.

The offense allegedly occurred Sunday, and Deputy Hudson served the warrant the same day.

• Laura Leigh Moody, 21, Magnolia Drive, South Boston, was served a capias warrant alleging she violated the terms of her probation on a felony charge.

The offense allegedly occurred April 27, and Deputy T. B. Sargent served the capias warrant Monday.

•  Jessie Jerome Jones, 23, Thompson Store Road, Vernon Hill, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Aug. 18, and Deputy Bates served the warrant Saturday.

• Ryan Joseph Marshall, 29, West Oak Hill Drive, Halifax, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Sept. 22, and Deputy D. L. Medley served the warrant Monday.

• Tobias Antwan Marable, Summit Drive, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Friday, and Deputy Burton served the warrant Tuesday.

• Cathy Bowman Clark, 54, Riverdale Drive, South Boston, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

The offense allegedly occurred Sept. 13, and Deputy Burton served the warrant Tuesday.
